Cosplay Masquerade Competition
Have prepared your best skit? You and your friends ready to rock the stage? Maybe you have a wondrous prop you want to share?
Why not share your talents, skills and creativity with us at our Cosplay Masquerade Competition, with seven different categories to choose from, including Best of Show, Best Prop, Aspiring Cosplayer, Best Duo, Best Group, Best Skit and the Judges’ Choice Award.
The Cosplay Masquerade is open to anyone who is wearing a costume that is associated with anime, manga, anime-style video games or other content, and artists with heavy artistic influences, or inspirations taken from Japanese culture. Participants with self-designed original characters/costumes will not be eligible to participate.
There will be a limited number of entries available in the Cosplay Masquerade (a whole group counts as one entry). If all the spaces are filled online, we may not be able to guarantee you entry on the day.
Applications for 2024 have closed.

Special Guest Judges
Twerkin Gherkin will be joining us this year as the local judge for the SMASH! Cosplay Masquerade competition! She has always had a love for all things anime and craft, and growing up on Sailor Moon and Hamtaro, Gherkin discovered the joys of cosplay in 2011 and hasn’t stopped since.
Throughout their journey, she has gained skills in sewing, patterning, wig styling and jewellery making, leading to a career in crafting for a boutique as their accessory maker, where she frequently applies her skills from cosplay as well as learning new techniques along the way.
Notable Cosplays
Valerious will also be joining us this year as the local judge for the SMASH! Cosplay Masquerade competition! Val is a Chinese-Australian who has been cosplaying for four years. She is a self-taught seamstress and prop maker.
Her favourite animes are Naruto and Code Geass Val is most excited to see all the craftsmanship and devotion everyone has put into their cosplays! As someone who loves crafting, she can’t wait to hear how people have gotten creative to overcome the hurdles presented by their costumes and props.
